Post Rome

8 05 2008

Well, we have been back 2 weeks now, and the whole coach trip to Rome and back seems a distant memory.  But what a memory.  As much as I enjoyed Rome, I have done that a couple of times now, so Lorrach, Germany, was my highlight of the tour.  The Mayor and her office of people were lovely and put on such a reception for us.  The German people in general were very welcoming.  Going through Switzerland was also fantastic.  A big thank you to the coach company Jones’ of Macclesfield for putting up with our tight schedules and becoming a part of us, it has been great travelling with them.  I also hope that we have all managed to raise alot of money for ‘When you wish upon a star’.

I did think that I might have been able to see my husband, Paul, since we got back, no chance.  He is still organising loads of things as well as working for the company.  I have also been too busy with the company and teaching the kids.

Our next event is the Minerva Festival on 25th and 26th of May.  I am too weary to be thrilled about this, but I hope all goes well.  Let’s hope the weather holds nice for it.  I’m a bit brain dead at the moment, nothing new there, so I’ll write again when I can think straight.

Good night,

Curatia, (Charlene)

Roman’ travelling through Switzerland

19 04 2008

Well we were in Lorrach yesterday. I am totally shattered from all the marching we did. The people in Lorrach were very welcoming and it was lovely to be received by the Burgmeister (mayor). The weather was beautiful. We left at 6am this morning and have been travelling through some fantastic scenery in Switzerland. It was great to see the snow on the mountains. Though I’m getting bum ache at the moment. We have just come through passport control and are now in Italy. Everyone on the coach is in good spirits and the drivers are doing us proud.

What a month

9 04 2008

I’m Charlene Harston, Co Director and Secretary to Roman Tours, also known as Curatia Dionysia in Deva Victrix.  For the past month the company and Deva Victrix have been organising this march on Rome.  I vaguely  remember having a husband before this month, now there is a strange man sleeping in my bed and working in the office non stop other than when he goes to do tours or get sponsorship.  I truly hope this trip will be worth it as I’m very close to becoming a nun, not in the literal sense of course.

Though I have to say I am very impressed with everybody who has helped by organising accommodation, painting shields, Paul with his ability to work the Roman Tours business and work full on getting  sponsorships, marketing  and support from the  not very helpful  Chester,  the organising of media coverage, though the media are not forth coming, with the exceptions of The Chester Chronicle and the fabulous Dee 106  and  even  myself  for sewing loads of tunics for the  group.  I’m impressed with the people who are not coming to Rome, but have still helped us immensly.  I am grateful to my kids putting up with us being so busy.  They will love this trip, what an experience for them and us. The coach company, Jones of Macclesfield, have been fantastic in helping us with this trip, also.

Though I will be glad when this trip has ended so that I can try and get back to some sort of normality, if that is possible with Paul.

Happy Birthday Mark, sorry you had to work on it at the Best of Chester Network evening, but what a fantastic job you did for us. Thank you.
